Arrived Lafayette, LA 2/25 following a drive from Conroe, TX . We spent a day scouting out Layfette then on 2/27 headed off to Eunice, LA for a day of Cajun and Zydeco music. First we listened to a jam session at Savoy’s Music Center, found a few geocaches, visited the Cajun Music Hall of Fame, Eunice museum and the National Park’s Jean Lafitte Acadian Cultural Center. At the Center we enjoyed live Cajun entertainment and a Cracklin (fried pork skins) demo. Attended the Rendez Vous Des Cajuns live radio and TV show (KRVS, KEUN, KDCG-TV) at the Liberty Theater. Musicians featured were Corey Ledet & his Zydeco Band (I found the music too loud especially the drums), Ryan Brunet & Les Malfecteurs (Cajun) and Chicago harmonica players Joe Filisko (who makes harmonicas) and Zoe Savaage. Zoe performed with DL Mernard a Cajun music singer, songwriter legend. The lyrics were in Cajun (French) and the emcee spoke Cajun most of the time; so we didn’t understand a lot of what was said. After the theater, we had dinner at Bubba Fryes where we enjoyed more live Cajun music. The food was good but a little pricey for what you got. Small town – Bubba played in the band at the Cultural Center and his restaurant. A full day of Cajun culture.
