Arrived 2/2 from Lake Conroe. Columbus is a small country town about 75 miles west of Houston. Columbus has a lot in common with Christmas shopping and things like that. You have to be in the right frame of mind. We come here expecting lots of quiet time and good beef brisket. Our stop this time satisfied those expectations with only a couple of exceptions.
2/5: Ranger knocked on the door to tell us that the jeep had a flat tire. Mann, with the help of neighbor Jack, changed it. Drove to Brenham. Stopped at the old general store in New Ulm. Did some geocaching in Brenham. Went to the Brenham opry ($5) where Choc, Gary Barnes and Margie LeBlanc performed. We enjoyed the music. There weren’t as many people as Giddings and you could see better since you were sitting at tables, all of which were fairly close to the stage.
2/7: Mann changed the fuel filter on the motor home as he was having problems on the way to Columbus. The engine was way down on power. A new fuel filter solved the problem.
2/9: Dinner at Peter’s bbq. Had the ½ beef brisket, 3 sides and iced tea for $6. The food was good and very filling. We’ve been here before and have never been dissapointed. Peter’s is a hole in the wall restaurant in the middle of nowhere.
2/11: We’re moving back to Lake Conroe. It is good thing we decided not to go to Dallas as originally planned. They got a foot of snow today and Bryan got sleet and snow. When will the weather improve? Things are lousy all over this winter.
